Adam Berey, a junior, joined The Lawrentian as associate copy editor in spring 2005. He became copy chief at the start of the 2005-2006 academic year. The Santa Rosa, Calif. native is pursuing a B.A. with majors in linguistics and music. A self-proclaimed “descriptivist,” Adam says that a proofreader’s responsibilities are to maintain clear mechanics and consistency of style, but not necessarily to enforce the outmoded strictness of “good” grammar. He invites readers to contact him with language-related comments, questions and remonstrations.
