Chestnut Curls

chestnut curls and maple eyes
freckled cheeks and tattooed thighs
i fear you would hate me if you only knew
rosy skin and tender lips
vintage jeans and vixen hips
i see all too well why he loves only you

you hold his heart, you wear his ring
the laughs we share don’t mean a thing
but last night i dreamt of him again
of hazel eyes and ivory skin
and with eyes closed i called his name
then woke up crying out in shame

but i’m watching him watching you
center stage where you belong
he’s lost in your enchanting voice
as you find yourself within your song

i have no right to beg your pardon
a sinner’s snake in heaven’s garden
but hear my plea and try to understand.
my conscience haunts me night and day
forgive these wretched words i say:
i hate myself for falling for your man
