The Lawrence University Men’s Track and Field team finished 6th place overall after battling in 31 events at the NC Cardinal Opener for 2025.
First-year Henry Buehrer was able to nab 7th place in the men’s 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 53.46 seconds. His placement earned the Vikings 2 points for this event.
Lawrence also gave a good show of themselves in the men’s 200-meter dash with 2 representatives in the top 30, junior Tristan Zook landing in 17th place with a time of 23.48 seconds and sophomore Brendan Cross sweeping to a 27th place finish at 24.17 seconds. Junior Marcus Jackson and first-year Nick Lubin were also able to help the team, clocking splits of 25.61 and 25.49 seconds respectively.
The Vikings claimed 1st place victories in the Finals Sections, with Cross and Zook leading the way, running times of 24.17 and 23.48 seconds.
Sophomore Leo Hagberg was particularly impressive in the men’s long jump, soaring to a distance of 6.03 meters, which landed him 4th place in the Finals Flight bracket 1. Zook also brought his good form into this event, ultimately jumping a distance of 6.24 metres.
In the men’s triple jump, Hagberg earned his team an important 3 points. A total jump distance of 13.05 meters from him was enough to nail 6th place out of the 15 competitors.
Lawrence University’s shot put specialist, junior Jack McLaughlin, threw a powerful distance of 10.41 meters. His throw provided the Vikings with an 8th place finish in the Finals Flight, where he shot his best on attempt 3.
McLaughlin repeated the feat in the men’s weight throw, garnering a mark distance of 10.24 meters, which placed him 11th in the Finals Flight. Will Eggert also helped himself to a 7.23 meter mark, a throw that guaranteed him 14th place in the bracket.
