Bird of the week: ruby-crowned kinglet
About: A very cute, small olive-green bird with small white wing patches and a prominent white eyering. Males have a bright red crown which is usually not very visible, but they will lift it when agitated.
Where to find this bird: In brush and the edges of trees. Paths with brush by the river are probably the best spots near campus to see these tiny birds.
When to find this bird: April–mid-May and mid-September–early November.
Fun fact: When feeding, ruby-crowned kinglets flit from bush to bush frantically, which is a good way to spot them.
