Bird of the week: Gray Catbird

About: Medium sized gray bird with black cap and chestnut undertail coverts.

Where to find this bird: Tends to hang low in brushy patches. Brushy patches along the Fox River, such as the Slug Garden and below Warch, are good spots to find them.

When to find this bird: early May through mid October.

Fun fact: Catbirds are named after their call, which sounds a bit similar to a cat’s “mew.” Their songs are very complex and like other birds in the Mimidae family, they are known to mimic other birds.
