Lawrence University’s Motion Picture Club (LUMP) has been widely known for their weekly movie screenings held in the Warch cinema. However, on Saturday, May 17, LUMP had their first ever outdoor movie event, presenting the Disney classic “The Princess and the Frog.”
The evening was packed with viewers on picnic blankets, frog cups with mocktails courtesy of Lawrence International (LI), short film features from LU film students, and live music provided by the Jazz & Gender Equity Initiative (JGEI).

The president of Lawrence International, Giang Pham ‘27, gushed about her admiration for LUMP and her eagerness to work with them to provide resources.

LUMP co-president Fizzy Williams ‘27 acknowledged her excitement about the turnout of around 200 students at the outdoor screening, saying it “was everything we could have hoped for.”
She mentioned that in choosing the outdoor movie, LUMP aimed to have something “nostalgic and fun” and that “The Princess and the Frog” is one of her favorite Disney movies. Co-president Gabriel Garcia ‘27 added, “It was really amazing to see so many people get together to enjoy, laugh and cry over the magic of movies together!”

As for the other collaborators, before the Disney film, film student CJ Murzyn ‘26 had the opportunity to screen his short film “Mind Cute.” Murzyn was previously awarded the Judge’s Choice award in LUMP’s Student Film Festival. “To have my short film shown at the screening was such a moving experience, and it inspired me to work even harder to make my next film an even better experience,” Murzyn said.
