A Trip to the Fridge

It’s late at night. It’s been a long day and you’re finally at the end of it, but you’re still feeling restless. Everything that is still left to do, something else you could’ve done, is on your mind. The stress of the day hasn’t yet completely melted away. So, you sit down and get to reading a captivating book. It’s so good you don’t want to leave it behind, but what can you do when you feel the grumble in your tummy! It’s just another sign that corroborates your feeling that something is missing. You finally decide to take a slow and steady walk, aiming for the fridge with that one shelf dedicated to all of your favorite chocolates. You try to carefully open up the metallic foil packaging, and then comes the snap.

That crisp, clear, satisfying snap of a well-tempered chocolate bar. Before you even taste it, you know that in just one bite there will be a riot of flavors happening all at the same time. A bit bitter, a bit sweet, a bit tangy, and a bit mellow. There’s even citrus to top it off. It’s the bar that you’ve been waiting to open. Those five minutes take away all of the anxieties of the day, and you return back to your book, happy. The orange taste still lingers even though the chocolate isn’t there anymore, and you make sure to savor it all. You notice that the grumbling in your stomach has vanished, and there’s no more restlessness. Now you’re finally ready to finish winding down for a good night’s rest.
