Fluid

fluid
not quite water
not quite clear
but find me a single lake untouched
by the mark of simple beasts
in a state of nature
we cannot define
what is pure and what is stained
we know only coexistence as heaven’s creatures
no maps or borders
no tales to tell you
this is not your place
only fluid
i am afraid to taste
poison or paradise on my lips
tainted water may bring my death
yet i long to drown
in your beauty i find possibilities
in every movement
so fluid
becomes ice at the first storm
i shouldn’t need you, but i want to
crystalize my feelings into an exquisite thing
keep my heart safe
beneath the surface of a frozen lake
where doomed loves go to die
when no sun can melt them
when no force can turn them
to fluid
like the river that carries you from me
in multitudes of water
stronger than an army, swifter than an ambush
i must find solace
in dreams
i will never hold you
when i wake
i shall be washed clean
