I’m currently taking a class called Philosophy of Children, and what we’ve been discussing recently is absolutely fascinating to me. These past few weeks we’ve been focusing on a central question: what does it mean to be a friend? This then got me thinking about how to define if we’re being a good friend to others. This specific train of inquiry has been in relation to the book we’re reading for the class, “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro. One could define friendship quite simply as a special connection between people who always care for and look out for each other. Alongside this, friendship is arguably one of the most complex relationships humans can have, because it can be so dynamic and ever-changing. Although there may not be a single way to define friendship, it is clear that one must have care and love in their heart to be a good friend.
