Silk Road

I watch from the crowd as you
speak to the masses,
your pale face untouched by
the blistering sun
as I feel the burn and you see
the blue
I wait until nightfall to follow
your footsteps
for only in moonlight am I fair
as you

Strange creature of your eternal
shadow
one step for two, matching
your stride
till I almost forget how alone
I escaped
a thousand cages to stand at
your side

And your mind is exquisite,
your heart tough and true
I’d walk ten thousand miles to
stand in your shoes
For firm are the hands that
spin straw to gold
But I’m crawling through
tunnels while you walk this
silk road
