Bird of the week: warbling vireo

About: small olive-gray bird with underside being lighter and sometimes almost yellow, and upperside darker. Very similar to the Philadelphia vireo, which is much rarer and has a darker head. While inconspicuous to the eye, their song is very loud and often can be heard long before seeing one.

Where to find this bird: likes deciduous trees and regularly hangs out high in the treetops. I regularly find them along the river, particularly near Eagle Point Senior Living Facility.

When to find this bird:
early May–mid September

Fun fact: warbling vireos have a wide range, breeding in most of the continuous US (except for the very southeast states) and are quite variable across their range. This variability made ornithologists consider them to be two species at one time.
