On Feb. 16 in the Warch Campus Center (WCC), Chi Alpha Sigma inducted 19 new members into the Wisconsin Zeta chapter.
Chi Alpha Sigma, a nonprofit organization founded in 1996, is the National College Athlete Honor Society, meant to highlight the academic achievements of its 4-year collegiate student-athletes. In order to be inducted into the organization, student-athletes must be currently competing, have a junior academic standing and have earned a 3.7 or higher cumulative grade point average in the classroom. Achieving membership is no easy task, and even amidst the Lawrence busy, each new Lawrentian admitted should be proud of their accomplishments.
This is the third year Lawrence has inducted student-athletes into the group, led by Co-Presidents seniors Mattigan Haller and Cambrie Rickard.
The event saw several student-athletes show their support of their teammates’ accomplishments, with representatives from several different sports teams representing current and onboarding members. In addition to inducting new members, graduating seniors were also presented with golden honors cords to wear at graduation.
Junior Adrie Villa, a center fielder on the softball team, is very excited for this opportunity.
“It is such an honor to be inducted into Lawrence’s third class of Chi Alpha Sigma,” she shares. “Lawrence allows students to excel both academically and athletically, and this honor society perfectly represents what it means to be a Lawrence student-athlete.”
