The St. Norbert women’s basketball team (14-3, 9-2 MWC) visited Alexander Gym last Tuesday night for a Midwest Conference matchup against the host Vikings (2-15, 0-11 MWC). The Green Knights took the lead early in the first half and never looked back.
With 11 minutes to go in the first half, the Vikings trailed 14-10, but the next eight minutes were literally all St. Norbert, as the Green Knights strung together a 20-0 run.
St. Norbert led 36-17 at the half, but the Green Knights did not let up, starting the second half strong and stretching the lead to as much as 35 points. The final score read 67-34 as the Vikings dropped their 11th conference game of the season.
Though St. Norbert senior Emily Otzelberger led her team in scoring with just 10 points, 12 different Green Knights scored in the game. Junior Rachel Hermus pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go with her seven points.
The Vikings were led by Laura Aerts, who had a game-high 13 points on 50 percent shooting. However, the rest of the team shot poorly, and the Vikings finished the game having shot a meager 25.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from the charity stripe.
The Vikings will return to action Friday night at home, when they will face Illinois College at 5 p.m. The Vikings also host Knox College Saturday at 2 p.m.
