A pair of standout high jumpers led the Lawrence University outdoor track team this past weekend at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
As she has done all year, senior Madeline Steininger had an impressive performance, jumping 5 feet, 3 inches, and placing first in the event. Freshman Rose Tepper finished third in the event with a jump of 5 feet, 1 inch.
Tepper also finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 32-2.25.
For the men, junior David Zane once again led the way for the Vikings. Coming off of a record-setting and award-winning week, Zane proved his consistency. He placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:26.0.
Also aiding the men’s team was freshman Sam Stevens, who earned a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:00.03.
However, the women’s team finished in last place out of six teams, 48 points behind fifth-place UW-Platteville. The men’s team finished with 15 points, which was 58 points behind fifth-place UW-Eau Claire but enough to finish ahead of last-place UW-Parkside.
The outdoor track team is back in action May 14-15 at the MWC Championships, which will be held at Illinois College.
The conference championships are the Vikings athletes’ next chance to qualify for the Division III National Championship, which will be held May 27-29.
