Blue and White Weekend returns

Blue and White Weekend, a long-standing Lawrence tradition of coming together every fall to celebrate being a Lawrentian, is happening from Thursday, Oct. 21, to Saturday, Oct. 23, hosted by LUCC in collaboration with the Student Organization for University Planning (SOUP) and the Student Activities Department. Other groups playing a role include the LU Cheerleading Team, LU Dance Team, the Conservatory, the Athletics Department, Bon Appetit and Christopher Card, Vice President for Student Life.

According to LUCC President Kelsi Bryant and Vice President Meralis Alvarez-Morales, this year they will be “turning up the heat, with the purpose to bring the community together and enjoy after being socially distanced for so long.”

Due to COVID-19, only students, faculty and staff are invited to the events, in coordination with advice from the Lawrence Pandemic Planning Team. Parents will be unable to attend.

The events planned include Grocery Bag Bingo, a staple event of SOUP’s, on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. All students are invited to play bingo in the Warch Campus Center’s Mead Witter Room, with the potential to win free groceries as prizes.

The Blue and White Glow Party will be on Friday, Oct. 22, starting at 8:30 p.m. in the Somerset Room. They will have two DJs, concert-grade lighting and sound, glow-in-the-dark face paint, and concert-grade smoke cannons.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, there will be a block party on Main Hall Green starting at 11 a.m. with at least six food trucks, a DJ, face painting, LU gear giveaway, a pep rally hosted by the LU Cheerleading Team, and dance games. In addition, there is a football game and tailgating at the Banta Bowl kicking off at 1 p.m., in addition to a swim meet with Ripon College at Boldt Natatorium at 1 p.m. and a women’s hockey game versus the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point at the Appleton Ice Center beginning at 7 p.m.

The weekend will end with a carnival on Main Hall Green from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday. The carnival will have 20+ carnival games, and other activities including Euro Bungee, Meltdown, a cash cube, a hi-striker, carnival food and a DJ.
