Baseball smashes homerun records against Grinnell

Lawrence baseball put on a nail-biting performance at their last away game versus Grinnell College this past Sunday.

There was a record-breaking seven home runs hit by the Lawrence Vikings over Sunday’s second game, leading to split the doubleheader weekend. The home runs were hit by Edan Perez (3), Jacob Charon (2), Stephaue Haylock (1) and Parker Knoll (1). Perez drove in the most runs at seven and went 3-for-6. Perez also clinched Midwest Conference Position Player of the week for his amazing performance. Charon drove in several runs totaling to six and went 3-for-5.

Grinnell scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a grand slam, making the score 14-17. However, the Vikings continued to push through and ended up scoring another four runs—including the game-winning home run hit by Haylock—in the top of the ninth. The Vikings took the win on this thrilling conclusion, leaving the final score 18-17.

Shane Foley pitched relief for the last two innings to secure a Lawrence win. Foley struck out five batters and allowed only two runs on one hit. Earlier in the day, Elden Santana put on a spectacular performance on the mound, striking out 12 batters and only allowing four hits over 6.2 innings.
