Hi! My name is Erica, and I am a sophomore biology major from Fredonia, Wis.
What sports do you play at Lawrence?
I am on the Lawrence University women’s soccer team.
How did you end up writing for The Lawrentian?
I love sports, so after working for the athletic department, I decided to get more involved by writing about them for the school newspaper.
Are you involved in any extracurriculars at Lawrence?
I hold an executive board position of a sorority on campus called Kappa Alpha Theta. I also work as a staff assistant to the sports information coordinator in the LU athletics department, and as a biology lab assistant as well as a biology tutor.
Why did you choose Lawrence?
I chose Lawrence because I wanted a school that would care about my individual journey through athletics and academic areas as well as personal growth. I feel like Lawrence has provided me with opportunities to gain those skills and surpass my goals many times!
What advice do you have for those who want to get involved in student journalism?
I would say you don’t need to be a perfect writer to be a journalist. I am still working on my writing, and I think it comes down to having a great team of people that all have a role in creating the final product. You don’t have to do it all!
What advice do you have for someone who wants to play sports in college?
Never let them outwork you —people may have come from opportunities that provided them with a different set of skills or a more advanced sports IQ, but as long as you continue to outwork the competition, you will continue to grow. Don’t take your foot off of the gas :).
What is/are your favorite sport(s) or team(s) to watch?
I am a huge Milwaukee Bucks fan (Go Bucks!), so they are probably my favorite to watch. Other than that, probably the Milwaukee Brewers in the MLB.
