Historical Photo Feature: Tunes down the Avenue

Perhaps the automobile in the background will help you place this photo in the 1920s. Taken from the Lawrence University Archives, this photo depicts the marching band from what was then Lawrence College as they make some noise along College Avenue. Players in uniform carry a variety of percussion, brass and even woodwind instruments — atypical for marching band instrumentation — as they parade proudly despite the conditions of a Wisconsin winter.
