Women’s Lacrosse clash with Concordiain first conference road contest

The Lawrence University Women’s Lacrosse team fell to a 5-20 deficit against Concordia University Wednesday night at the Fitting Field in Mequon, Wisconsin in what proved to be a chilly contest.

The Vikings’ first away conference game opened up to an attendance of 64 and got off to a fast paced start with three goals in the opening eight minutes. Senior Lydia Lueck rifled her team’s sole point of the first quarter with 8:59 on the clock before being pegged back by a response from Concordia’s Emily Robertson.

Concordia would add another two points to their total before the end of the period and would restart the second quarter with a goal just 30 seconds in. The Vikings surged back, however, with first-year Annika Dolberg and Lueck able to cut down the deficit to just two points, amending the scoreline to 3-5 with the time ticking at 13:23. But a late flurry from Concordia saw the halftime score put up a heavy ask for Lawrence, with the board reading 4-10.

The resumption of the game with the second half saw Concordia play to their home crowd with an inspired playmaking performance by Robertson, who notched four assists, increasing the lead to 4-16 come the end of the period. The final quarter proved to be a more cagey affair with both teams laying off the gas and seeing out a 5-20 scoreline with sophomore Sarah Dobrzynski netting the last goal of the contest at 00:55.

The result sees Lawrence go into their next fixture at Aurora University with an overall record of 1-8, 0-5 of which being in conference.
