Men’s XC takes second, women take seventh at conference

The Lawrence University men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Monmouth, Illinois to compete in the Midwest Conference Championships last Saturday. The men’s team earned a strong second-place finish, while the women finished seventh.
Sophomore Sam Stevens paced the men’s team with a third-place finish in a time of 25:48.34, and freshman Curran Carlile finished seventh with a time of 25:58.77. Senior David Zane finished 11th in 26:07.02. All three were named to the All-Conference team, and they led their team to its highest finish in the conference since 1989, when Lawrence also took second place. Grinnell College won the men’s team championship.
For the women’s team, junior Emily Muhs finished in seventh place with a time of 23:21.98, and senior Annie Sullivan finished 35th with a time of 24:44.77. Muhs notched a spot on the all-conference team for the second year in a row. The women’s team from St. Norbert College took home the championship in the event.
