The Lawrence University women’s soccer team clinched the third spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament in style last Saturday as they cruised past hosts Ripon 8-3. This is the second consecutive season in which the women have earned a berth in the conference tournament.
Senior Sarah Ehlinger and junior Mallory Koula both recorded hat tricks for the Vikings, and sophomore Ellie Galvin and junior Natalie Jin also scored.
The game was the second time this season that Koula notched a hat trick. Koula and Ehlinger finished the regular season as the Vikings’ top two goalscorers with 14 and 10 goals respectively. Ehlinger also led the team in assists with eight.
Freshman goalkeeper Cassie Burke also looks to build on an excellent regular season in which she allowed only 1.5 goals per game while making 49 saves. Burke also recorded four shutouts over the course of the season.
The Vikings (7-8-1, 6-2-1 MWC) will face Lake Forest in the opening game of the conference tournament Friday, which will be held at Carroll University, as Carroll won the regular season conference title and earned the right to host the tournament.
Should the Vikings get past the Foresters, they will face the winner of the Carroll-Monmouth game with the conference championship on the line. The winner of the conference tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
