Track scores modest success in opener

The Lawrence University indoor track team won three events at the season-opening Pointer Open, held last Saturday at UW-Stevens Point.
In the women’s 800-meter run, sophomore Amanda Dwyer beat out junior Rachel Young with a time of 2:44.85 to finish first. Dwyer’s win was joined by one from sophomore Rose Tepper, who cleared a height of 1.56 meters to win the women’s high jump.
The only win on the men’s side of the competition came from junior Nick Kerkman, who won the weight throw with a distance of 13.49 meters. Finishing in third in the same event was fellow junior Stan Jablonski, who threw for a distance of 9.64 meters.
The track season will continue next Saturday at UW-Whitewater, where the Vikings will compete in the Rocky Rococo Invitational.
