Twice last weekend junior Ben Dictus faced off against Elmhurst’s Matt Sassolino, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation at 184 pounds. In the first match Dictus came up just short, falling 4-2. However he reversed the results in the third place match, outlasting Sassolino for a 1-0 victory.
Dictus third-place finish led the Vikings to an eighth-place finish out of 16 teams. Five out of nine Lawrence wrestlers placed in the top eight of their respective weight classes. Sophomore John Budi placed fourth at 165 pounds. Sophomores David Quinlan and Ryan Dummann both placed seventh, and Jim Williamson took eighth.
The Vikings head to MSOE for the Private College Championships this Saturday, and then take to the mat at UW-Eau Claire on Sunday.
