Lawrence spikers on a roll after 3-1 victory

The Lawrence University volleyball team has won three of its last four matches, including a 3-1 victory over conference foe Carroll last Tuesday. The Vikings are now 6-16 on the year.The Vikings went 2-1 at the St. Norbert College Invitational last Saturday, defeating Mount Mary 3-0 and Northland Baptist 3-2. The Vikings’ sole loss came against UW-Stevens Point: 3-0.

Against Mount Mary, the entire Viking team was on attack. For the match they had an impressive 54 percent hitting percentage. Leading the team in kills was Kelly Mulcahy with 13. Alicia Onisawa led the Vikings with 10 service aces. LU would cruise 30-12, 30-8, and 30-5.

It was a little harder for LU against Northland Baptist, but they pulled it out in five games, 25-30, 32-30, 30-25, 28-30, 15-11. The Vikings’ attack percentage dropped to only about 20 percent in this match, but they still had enough left to gut out the fifth game, where they hit nearly 35 percent. Onisawa led the team in kills this match, with 17.

The Vikings then went down to Waukesha to take on Carroll on their home court. The Vikings would own the match, winning in four games. The scores were 13-30, 30-26, 30-26, and 30-27. Mulcahy led the team with 12 kills. The Vikings are next in action Thursday at St. Norbert.
