The Lawrentian appoints new leadership for 2016-17

The Lawrentian has opened applications for the 2016-17 Editorial Board in anticipation of upcoming leadership changes. After the seniors on the current board met on Sunday, Jan. 31, sophomore Elizabeth Weekes and junior Alex Kurki were appointed editor-in-chief and copy chief, respectively.

Weekes previously served as arts and entertainment editor at The Lawrentian. She expressed her excitement to start in her new leadership role. “I have a passion for this newspaper and journalism in general,” she said. “With my dedication, I hope to elevate the overall quality and accountability of the newspaper.”

Kurki, too, has had prior experience with editing as copy editor at The Lawrentian and head writing tutor at the Center for Teaching and Learning. He commented that he looks forward to “ensuring that The Lawrentian continues to provide this campus with quality journalism.”

After the completion of this first stage of applications, The Lawrentian is looking to hire the remainder of the Editorial Board. Applications for all other positions close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4. The new leadership will transition over the rest of this term and assume office beginning Spring Term.
