Winter intramurals start up again with strong turnout

Lawrence University encourages participation in team sports and stresses the importance of being active because of the positive health benefits it provides. One of the ways this is accomplished is through intramural (IM) sports! IM sports provide students with the opportunity to grow in physical, mental and social areas by interacting with fellow Lawrentians and competing in several different team sports. Wintertime can be a struggle for many outdoor adventure lovers, so IM sports become the outreach they need to stay active and meet new people. Lawrence offers several winter IM sports, including 5 v 5 basketball (Sundays, 7–10 p.m.), 6 v 6 volleyball (Mondays, 7:30–10 p.m.), 2 v 2 badminton (Tuesdays, 8–10 p.m.), 6 v 6 soccer (Wednesdays, 7:30–10 p.m.) and 2 v 2 pickleball (Thursdays, 8–10 p.m.). On top of those sports listed above, that compete weekly, there is also broomball, bubble soccer, flag football and ping pong, which compete a few times per term. In order to be eligible for IM sports, you must be a current Lawrence University student, a member of the Lawrence University faculty/staff, or be the spouse of a student, faculty or staff member.  You can sign up for any IM sport individually and be put on an existing team or sign up with other people as a team under the sport of your choosing. Lawrence University also provides the opportunity for students to cheer on their friends at all these events by leaving them open to the Lawrence campus right from the Wellness Center. If you or anyone else you know has questions, they can email Erin Buenzli or find more information on the Lawrence Wellness Services page.
