Frelich selected for national team of the week

Though the Vikings’ football team lost its fourth successive game last weekend against Illinois College, there is one player who shines regardless, Matt Frelich.
Earlier this season, Frelich was selected as the Midwest Conference’s special teams athlete of the week in reward for blocking a punt and making five tackles in a 45-3 loss to St. Norbert. This week, Frelich was honored again.
Against Illinois College, Frelich had a season-high eight tackles, including three tackles for lost yardage and two sacks. Even more impressively, he scored his first career touchdown – a remarkable achievement for a defensive end – after intercepting Illinois College quarterback Mitch Niekamp’s pass.
To add to an already amazing day for Frelich, he also recorded two pass breakups, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble.
This amazing performance earned him not only conference player of the week honors, but also a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week, a compilation of the week’s best performers in Division III college football.
This weekend the rest of the Vikings will try to follow Frelich’s example as they travel to Lake Forest Saturday.
