Hip-Hop for Cultural Awareness and Social Change was established last year to help encourage and cultivate all facets of hip-hop’s culture. They have been trying to provide a place where artists’ talents can thrive in a community where this art form is often looked down upon. Interest seems to be at a premium, but getting people to actually attend meetings seems to be the hard part. Hopefully with the increase of hip-hop’s exposure on campus through upcoming shows and forums/discussions of current issues in the industry, the club will have a permanent effect on the status of hip-hop in the Lawrence and Appleton community.
