Matt Melchiori helped the Lawrence University hockey team to a 1-2 record this past weekend. For the weekend, he had three goals and four assists for seven points.The sophomore from Appleton led Lawrence to its first victory of the season, an 8-3 victory at Northland College on Saturday night. Melchiori scored two goals and added two assists, as the Vikings scored seven consecutive goals and rolled to the win. He also had an assist in Friday’s 6-4 loss to the Lumberjacks.
Melchiori capped his weekend with a goal and an assist in an 8-2 loss to the University of Minnesota-Crookston.
Bridget Griesbach led the Lawrence University volleyball team to third place at the Midwest Conference Tournament this past weekend.
A sophomore setter from Hortonville, Griesbach helped the Vikings to a 2-1 record. The Vikings opened by beating Ripon College 31-29, 30-32, 30-25, 30-24, in the quarterfinals. After a 3-0 loss to Lake Forest College in the semifinals, the Vikings came back to beat Illinois College 30-21, 30-21, 25-30, 20-30, 15-6, in the third-place match.
Griesbach had 153 assists and 31 digs for the tournament. She had a career-high 70 assists against Ripon, breaking the school record of 65.
