A team of scientists has reconstructed more than three-quarters of the genome of the extinct woolly mammoth using DNA extracted from balls of hair. The project provides some of the starting material for bringing the species back to life, although this will not be possible in the near future, if at all.

ANCHORAGE — Alaska Senator Ted Stevens conceded defeat Wednesday in his campaign for re-election. The campaign was tainted by Stevens’ federal felony conviction. In his statement, Stevens stated that not enough ballots remain uncounted for him to catch up to Democrat Mark Begich, who holds a 3,724-vote lead out of about 315,000 ballots cast.
