Last weekend, individuals from the Lawrence Track and Field team traveled to Naperville, Ill. to compete in the Last Chance Meet at North Central College. This meet provided the final opportunity for individuals to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships at UW-Oshkosh this weekend.
Though no one qualified to compete this weekend, seniors Steph Kramer, Mike Pierquet and Russell Geisthardt had season bests in each of their main events.
Kramer, also a member of the women’s basketball team, broke the hammer throw record that she had set earlier in the season. She threw a distance of 117.95 feet and posting a 17th place finish on the day.

Pierquet placed 22nd with a discus throw of 118.44 feet. Most notable was his season’s best toss in the hammer throw with a distance of 141.67 feet, good for an 11th place finish.
Geisthardt ran his season’s best in the 400 meter dash, finishing in a time of 51.71 seconds. Geisthardt beat his previous best time of 52.08 seconds by 0.37 seconds. He posted a 21st place finish.
Also impressive was sophomore Madeline Steininger who placed in both the high jump and the long jump. For a 9th place tie, Steininger jumped 4.95 feet in the high jump. In the long jump, she jumped 15.45 feet for a 14th place finish.
