Coaching vacancies filled

Within the past week Lawrence athletics has filled two coaching voids. The men’s and women’s tennis teams and women’s basketball team each found successors for their coaching vacancies.
Tuesday, Lawrence University Athletics Director Bob Beeman announced that Kevin Girard will be the new men’s and women’s tennis coach.
Girard is a native of Marquette, Mich. and comes to Lawrence from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. where he was an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Girard spent two seasons on the staff at Carnegie Mellon, and in those two seasons coached eight All-Americans.
He was an accomplished tennis player in his own right as he won two high school state championships and was a four-year letter winner at Michigan Technological University.
Wednesday, Beeman announced another addition to the Lawrence athletics staff. Michelle Walsh was named head coach of the women’s basketball team.
Walsh comes from the New York area where she coached at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y. Walsh led the school to a 17-11 record and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Upstate Championship.
A leader by nature, Walsh was a three-sport athlete in college while serving as captain of all three teams.
