Vikings put up 52 points, outclass Lake Forest

Coming off a gritty win over Grinnell, the LU football team looked to carry their momentum through to the end of their season, starting with last weekend’s home game against Lake Forest. Lawrence put up the first points of the game at the end of the first quarter as QB Eric Aspenson connected with WR Dom Lark for a 71-yard touchdown. After a Forester equalizer, Aspenson hit his favorite target, Senior Nick Korn, to regain the lead and subsequently ran one in from the 1-yard line to give the Vikings the 21-7 lead at the half.
The third quarter was all Lawrence, as the defense shut down the Foresters and the offense made their way towards their highest team point total in seven years. The Foresters scored twice in the closing quarter as the game ended with a momentous 52-20 score line.
Nick Korn improved his season touchdown total to 7, putting on a display with 3 scores as he repeatedly punished the Lake Forest secondary. Aspenson tied the school record for passing touchdowns in a game, ending with 4 passing and 2 rushing scores. The junior quarterback was named MWC offensive player of the week for his stellar performance. Adrell Bullock stood out rushing for 86 yards on 14 carries as the Vikings amassed 529 total offensive yards.
Lawrence’s defense was impenetrable through most of the game as they restricted the Forester offense to just 295 total yards. Tyler Krzewina had some big hits as he piled on a team-high 12 tackles. Kicker Brian Althouse was a perfect 7 for 7 on extra points and squeezed in a 26-yard field goal as the game wound down.
The Vikings were truly impressive in victory, and in their three wins so far this season have managed to display an ability to compete with and beat teams throughout the talent spectrum of the conference. Lawrence is 3-1 at home and has secured its first winning home season since 1991. The Vikings are now 3-5 overall and play their season closer against Illinois College Nov. 12.
