Live Music with Songs on Death and Love

Rachel Hoerman

Have nothing to do this coming Saturday night? Then think Sesshu and Klipspringer.
The first is a band named after a Japanese ink painter of the 15th century whom the drummer admires, which sings “sad songs at high volume,” according to lead vocalist, guitarist, and fellow Lawrentian Ryan Young. He adds: “We write our own music and sing some covers as well.” The second is a group that performs 70’s pop in the proud tradition of Elvis Costello.
What do the two have in common? Although the members of both bands have been friends since they were 12 years old, the fact that they are performing live in Riverview Lounge, Saturday, January 19, at 9 p.m. may be the answer to the dilemma you faced in the first paragraph.
