Men’s b-ball shut down in second half, lose at Ripon

The Lawrence University men’s basketball team fell victim to a late Ripon rush and lost to the Redhawks 84-66 last Saturday. The Vikings and Redhawks played a very evenly matched first half. Both teams shot the ball fairly well, and both teams played even defense. At the end of the first half the Redhawks were only ahead of the Vikings by one point, 38-37. This evenly matched game continued throughout most of the second half. Lawrence took a lead, but quickly saw it vanish, as Ripon struck back. With 5:15 remaining in the game, Ripon had a 69-65 lead. The Vikings shooting then turned ice cold, and the Redhawks defense took over. Ripon went on a 15-1 run over the remaining 5:15 of the game and left the Vikings in the dust. Ripon coasted to an 84-66 victory, and ended the Vikings season with a disappointing loss.

Junior guard Josh Glocke, who scored twenty-four points and five assists for Ripon, led the Redhawks. The two Viking senior Captains, playing in their last game, led Lawrence in scoring. Dustin Pagoria and Ryan Gebler both finished with fourteen points, as did sophomore guard Chris MacGillis.

The Vikings ended the 2001-02 season with a 9-14 overall record, and a 7-9 record in the Midwest Conference, good enough for a seventh place finish.
