Aloofness is out, and having emotions is in. If I had easy access to any roofs, I’d shout those words from atop them; instead, I’ll settle for writing this article with as much conviction as a tabloid gossip columnist. I may not be able to cite any hard data or experts in the field, but I’ve sure got a hunch that being cool and distant really lost its edge in a world where, for a while, that was the only option. It’s just so much hotter to be in touch with your feelings.

I moved into the dorms this year knowing that on that same day in 2020, I was moving to Oxford, England to study at Oxford. I can’t believe it has been a year. I have so many feelings about that, and as many more students are able to study abroad now (rather than just two students in fall 2020), I wanted to reflect.
My first year of college I would wake up extra early every morning and cover my face in makeup. Every pore I had would be coated in foundation and patted dry with powder. I didn’t do this because I wanted to, but because I felt like I had to.

On February 25, 2020, ousted Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak died at the age of 91. And on April 8, 2013, and June 5, 2004, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former President Ronald Reagan both died. Each one of these deaths has sparked debates about how to react when someone with a controversial past dies.
